Ibizan Warren Hound - Ibizan Podenco (Ca Eivissenc) The Ibizan Warren Hound - Ibizan Podenco (Ca Eivissenc) is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world and it is related to other similar breeds typical from the Mediterranean coastal areas, like the Cirnecco dell’Etna, the Pharaoh Hound and the Andalusian, Canary and Portuguese Hounds. The Ibizan Warren Hound - Ibizan Podenco (Ca Eivissenc) might be a descendant of the primitive dogs of the times of the Pharaohs arrived to the Balearic Islands with the Phoenician traders in their commercial expeditions. It is reported the existence of these dogs about 1000 b.C. The Ibizan Warren Hound - Ibizan Podenco (Ca Eivissenc) found in the island of Ibiza a unique paradise to live. This insularity favoured the maintenance of its original characteristics during centuries and being bred and selected under strictly functional criteria. The breed has been traditionally used for sight rabbit hunting. The unique way of hunting and moving of the Ibizan Hound is due to the special orography of the island, being very typical its vertical jumps trying to locate its target. A singularity of the breed is the existence of two coat varieties: one smooth, thin and tight and another rough, hard and halflong. The Ibizan Warren Hound - Ibizan Podenco (Ca Eivissenc) is one of the most international Spanish breeds and is recognised by every cynological organization around the world.
