Andalusian Warren Hound It is practically impossible to determine the origin of this numerous ethnic group. There are two different theories: One of them alludes to the close relationship with the primitive erected ears Egyptian hounds or Pharaohs hounds that arrived in the Iberian Peninsula with the Phoenician traders. This theory is based on the anatomical similarities with dogs in paintings and Egyptians sculptures. It is a widely spread theory, but without documentary base. A second and most modern theory places the origin of the Andalusian Warren Hound in the Iberian Peninsula. Historically, our peninsula was famous for the abundance of rabbits, as the Greek and Roman historians compiled in their chronicles. In fact, this theory, based on the special ecological conditions of the Iberian Peninsula for the development of such a special dog, defends the existence of these hounds in the Peninsula since the ancient times. Its link with the man is due to hunting. It is to be stressed that Andalusian Warren Hounds have a very special character different from the rest of the dog groups and are able to survive in semi-freedom without the help of man in areas of rabbits. The Andalusian Warren Hound is officially recognised only from 1992 when the breed standard was wrote and a controlled selection started. At present, there are three recognised sizes: Big, Medium and Small (Chico) and three different kinds of coat: Cerdeño (wire and long), Sedeño (silky and long) and Liso (short and thin).
