Libro Razas Españolas

Majorero Dog The Majorero Dog has its origin in the Canary Island of Fuerteventura, specifically in the area formerly known as Maxorata or Campo Majorero. This dog has always worked with the cattle and has been selected in a natural way for this job. The breed history is very old and it is an important part of the secular culture of the island. There are historic and bibliographical references since the incorporation of Canary Islands to the Castilian Crown at the beginning of 15th century and even earlier. For centuries, the breed was very used by local shepherds. The recovery and selection of the breed has always had a functional character, trying to preserve its exceptional virtues of rusticity and guardian character. The first Show of the Breed was held in Tuineje in 1979 and the official recognition of the breed standard by the R.S.C.E. open a new horizon for the breed.
